Crabs/Pubic Lice

Crabs or Pubic lice are parasitic bugs which can be found primarily in the genital area of humans. Pubic lice infestation is observed worldwide and happens in all races, ethnic groups and some other levels of society.

How do Pubic Spreads?

Pubic lice normally spread by physical contact for e.g. Sex, it is most common in adults. Pubic lice can be found in children also, it may be a symbol of sexual exposure or it could be abuse as well. Infrequently pubic lice may be spread by close contact or it can spread by things such as clothing, bed linens or towels which have been used by an infected person.

A common mistake is that pubic lice are they do spread easily by sitting on toilet seats which is not properly clean. This would be a very rare condition because lice cannot live long in a human body also, they do not have feet meant to hold onto smooth surfaces to walk like such as toilet seats. If somebody affected with pubic lice should be tested for the appearance of other sexually transmitted diseases.

How to Diagnose Pubic lice if you are Infected?

  • Pubic lice infection tested by observing a “crab” louse or egg (nit) on hair in the private part on the body like eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, moustache, armpit, perianal area, groin, trunk or scalp
  • Pubic lice may be hard to see because there may be hardly a few. Pubic lice often connect themselves to more than one hair and generally they do not crawl as soon as head and body lice.
  • If crawling lice are not observed, finding nits in the pubic area strongly recommends that a person is infested also should be treated. If you are uncertain of infection and if treatment is not successful then consult to the best sexologist who can diagnose this issue.
  • If somebody who is infected with pubic lice should seek for the presence of some other sexually transmitted diseases as well. Although pubic lice are large enough to view with the naked eye or a magnifying lens may help to find lice or eggs.

How to Cure/Treat Pubic lice Infection:

  • Wash the infected area with a dry towel and carefully observe the directions in the package or on the label. Completely saturate the pubic hair and other infested areas with lice medication.
  • Give the medicine on hair for the time prescribed in the guidance.
  • After waiting the prescribed time, remove the medicine by following carefully the instructions on the label or in the box. Following treatment, most nits will still be added to hair shafts.
  • Nits may be removed with fingernails also you can try by using a fine-toothed comb, try to clean underwear and clothing after medication.
  • If possible, try to kill any lice or nits remaining on clothing, towels, or bedding, machine-wash or machine-dry those items that the infested person used during the 2–3 days before therapy.
  • Use hot water for at least 130°F and try the hot dryer cycle, also items that cannot be washed can be dry-cleaned or else collected in a sealed plastic bag for 2 weeks.
  • Inform all the sex partners they are at risk for infection and they take proper treatment under a sexologist. It is important to know that sexual contact with the sex partner can re-infect this issue.
  • Take care to repeat the treatment within 9 to 10 days. In case if live lice are still present then persons should be assessed for other sexually transmitted diseases STDs.
